The foundation of any community is the home. Yet, in many parts of the world individuals and families lack even a basic structure to live in. Moreover, when disasters such as famine or an earthquake hit a poor and underdeveloped region those who loose their homes are left with neither the means to rebuild nor access to financial aid and support.

Muslim Hands' Housing Scheme is a community-centric project designed to assist those who are homeless and those who have lost their homes due to instability or disaster. Housing cannot be built in isolation and teams consider wider community needs such as clean water, sanitation and providing a means of livelihood. The scheme thus often runs alongside the safe water, small loans and other schemes in a community.

Housing is low cost and often appears basic, but is designed to address needs, be permanent and long lasting and is always of a similar standard to other housing in the community. When building homes Muslim Hands uses local materials such as bamboo, clay, hay and corrugated metal sheets and we employ local labour. As well as reducing cost and allowing many houses to be constructed quickly, further employment and benefits are brought to the local economy.
