Iftar Programme
Imagine how we would feel if after a whole day of fasting, we had only a cup of water and a piece of dry bread to break our fast? What if we had even less than that?
Every year during Ramadan MH works hard to ensure that many of the poor, sick and elderly around the world who share this spiritual bond of fasting are served a wholesome and nutritious hot meal each evening as part of the Iftar Programme. Last year Muslim Hands' Worldwide Iftar Aid Programme reached over 240,000 needy people in 35 of the world's poorest countries.
Orphans
Orphan Sponsorship, either one-to-one or via the Orphans Card Fund, is designed to assist orphans and their families in both the short and long term. Money is used to ensure an orphan's needs are met, including money for the orphan's family / carers to help towards living costs, a quality education at an MH or local school, books and stationery, and regular visits from an MH field worker to oversee the orphan's care.
Africa
Africa, the cradle of humanity and civilisation itself, is not only a land of outstanding beauty but one endowed with an abundance of natural resources and wealth -- yet 500 million of its inhabitants live in abject poverty.
Alhamdulillah, Africa has put an end to most of its devastating civil wars, yet the plight of Africans has actually worsened. Average incomes are now lower than in the 1960s, and uniquely Africa remains the only region of the world where the number of people living in extreme poverty is growing.
With your generosity and support, MH has been working in The Gambia, Senegal and South Africa since the outset in 1993. Today MH is providing essential food, water, education and medical care in 18 of the poorest countries in Africa.
But much more needs to be done. Unfortunately, amidst the wars in the Middle East and natural disasters in Asia, we have all taken our eyes off Africa and its growing poverty, inadvertently ignoring the plight of millions of our brothers and sisters.
