It's important for all of us to have an up-to-date will in place. This is especially true in countries such as the UK where if a person dies without a will, intestacy laws will see an estate distributed in a manner inconsistent with Islamic law.

Ensuring you have a valid will allows you to rest assured your loved ones are cared for and your estate distributed exactly as you wish. Careful planning in a will and leaving a portion of one's estate to a registered charity also brings a number of benefits and can reduce the amount paid in inheritance tax.

Since the advent of Islam it has been the tradition of Muslims to leave a legacy -- a portion of their wealth distributed after death -- to help the poor and needy. Such a gift is often invested into a waqf fund (see MH Waqf Fund) ensuring it continues to bring benefit to those in need and reward to the benefactor.
