Teacher Sponsorship
At Muslim Hands we believe education is a right that belongs to all, irrespective of their background. Education is also the best way to help children find a better future and to open up more opportunities than were available to their parents.
Of course, providing a sound education to all children should be one of the first priorities of any government or society. The reality, however, is far removed from this with most parts of the developing world possessing a patchy educational system at best. Moreover, in many parts, even when a government school is present, it is so poorly funded with underqualified and underpaid teachers that parents choose not to send their children; instead they work to contribute to the family income.
Recognising these facts has been key to Muslim Hands' approach to helping people lift themselves out of poverty: our orphan and student sponsorship schemes ensure sponsored children receive a sound education, and much of our work focuses around establishing high quality schools such as MH Model Schools or Schools of Excellence. However, as any student will testify, more important than the school we attend are the teachers we learn from -- everyone remembers a good teacher!
One Teacher, Many Possibilities
By providing a well trained and motivated teacher you help many people and give a wonderful sadaqah jariah. The first to benefit is the teacher who is being given a stable job and income (not to mention their family). Most of all however, you are helping at least 20-30 children each and every year -- children who more than likely would not have received an education otherwise. Indeed, in some very rural areas there is only one school and class for miles around, and by providing a teacher your are effectively providing an entire school.
To sponsor a teacher costs just $54.25 per month. The money will be used to pay the teacher's salary and will help towards occasional teacher training courses that Muslim Hands runs to ensure standards are maintained. All teachers are carefully selected by our field offices to ensure they have the right qualifications and abilities for teaching at either the primary or secondary level.
