Gujurat Riots Appeal
Despair and hopelessness are not the way of the Muslim, but when one witnesses the killing fields of Palestine, Chechnya and more recently India, it is difficult to remain optimistic.
Our TV screens and newspapers are filled with gruesome statistics of death and suffering, not only of individuals and their families, but of villages, cities and entire Muslim nations. No longer do we have to read between the lines to see the massacre taking place.
Take one look at the horrifying situations in Gujrat, India. Human Rights Watch describe how:
"…thousands of attackers descended on Muslim neighbourhoods… they were armed with swords, sophisticated explosives and gas cylinders. They were guided by voter lists and print-outs of addresses of Muslim-owned properties - information obtained from the local municipality."
Aside from the fact that nearly two thousand innocent Muslims have been burned, slaughtered and killed since February 27th, I am appaled by the calculated and systematic way these people were murdered, and how easily the massacre has been hidden from international scrutiny. This appeal hopes to raise awareness of the forgotten victims and survivors of the Gujrat massacre. Those who were martyred during the massacre have left us… but we must act to help the scores of thousands who have been left homeless, traumatised and are still in fear of their lives.
Once again we appeal to your generous nature to help re-house the survivors of the Gujrat Massacre. We must not let our despair turn to hopelessness… let us instead make a firm commitment to use all that Allah (swt) has empowered us with to help them in the hour of their need.
