Library and Computer Literacy Centre
An initial feasibility report was conducted on our behalf by a team of MBA students who travelled to The Gambia. It was found that the library services in The Gambia were in desperate need of stock.
The National Library Network was found to contain very little sources of Islamic literature and the Mobile Library Network (library-bus), that had provided some access to literature to the rural communities, had been suspended for the past four years due to a lack of funding.
"We feel that education and dawa is a duty" began the report from our regional officer in The Gambia. He continued, "we strongly feel the need for an Islamic library here, that is open to all."
As English is the official language of The Gambia, Muslim Hands sent the initial shipment of 700 books and 100 videos from here in the UK. Alhamdulillah, a small library located near our office in The Gambia is now open to the public.
We are also in the process of establishing a Computer Literacy Centre in Serre-Kunda, The Gambia. Twenty personal computers have been despatched from the UK for this purpose. The centre will also double as an electronic library / resource centre for the local community.
- Emergency Relief
The world we live in is full of inequality. When conflict or natural disasters occur, countries that are not economically developed are usually unable to cope with and recover from destruction.
