Civil War in Sierra Leone
1999 marked the most intensive and concentrated period of human rights violations in Sierra Leone's 8 year civil war, which has already high unemployment, poverty and hunger to mineral rich country.
With an initial sum of £15,000 Muslim Hands was able to implement a food and clothing distribution program in rural areas east of the capital.
Food parcels containing rice and other basic items were distributed in March 1999 and benefited more than 4000 people.
Villages like Mothaim, a small mountainous village approximately 10 km from the capital Freetown is an example where such poverty is costing lives.
Our partners in Sierra Leone are working with the vulnerable groups in rural areas like Mothaim. Four distribution centres have also been set up to continue this effort.
- Emergency Relief
The world we live in is full of inequality. When conflict or natural disasters occur, countries that are not economically developed are usually unable to cope with and recover from destruction.
