Muslim Hands' Response
Muslim Hands teams were in disaster struck areas at the time the earthquake hit and thus were able to begin work immediately. From those initial hours much work has been carried out alhamdulillah, though the scale of the disaster is almost beyond comprehension.
Muslim Hands has currently allocated a sum of $2,635,000 for emergency relief, though this may well be increased upwards.
Bagh
Shelter: for 307 families has been provided at Camp Siri Avera. 200 tents were distributed amongst earthquake victims.
Medical: a medical facility in Bagh has served more than 1000 patients.
Ambulance: a service has been operating since October 10th.
Balakot
Shelter: for 260 families has been provided.
- Camp Ghari Habibullah is providing shelter to 85 families.
- Camp Tarrana is providing shelter to 90 families.
- Camp Shawal is providing shelter to 20 families.
- Camp Mansehara has accommodated 65 families.
A further 500 families have been registered for the provision of shelter.
Medical Relief: a camp serving more than 1,500 patients is operating with 7 doctors and 1 attendant is providing treatment for earthquake victims.
Ambulance: an ambulance service has been running in Balakot since the day after the earthquake.
Muzzaffarabad
Shelter: two main camps have been established:
- Camp Chelabandi is providing shelter to 550 families.
- Camp Tariqabad is providing shelter to 650 families.
Food Aid: aid is being supplied to over 2,600 families.
Water Aid: 18 water storage tanks are placed at Muzzaffarabad. 12 water storage tanks are placed at MH Camp Chelabandi; whilst 6 are placed at Camp Tariqabad. 800 storage gallons have been delivered for the water storage of families at the camps.
Kitchen Kits: for 800 families in the camps have been provided.
Stove and Fuel: for 800 families have been provided.
Blankets: together with quilts and mattresses for 2,600 families have been provided.
UNICEF have provided 800 blankets to Muslim Hands. These blankets shall be given to the families living at camps. More blankets, quilts and matrices are urgently being sourced.
Toilets: some toilets are in place at the camps. Oxfam has provided Muslim Hands with 50 latrines that are currently being installed.
Medical Relief: an MH facility has provided basic medical treatment and vaccination to more than 6,000 survivors of the earthquake.
In addition:
Camp Chelabandi has a tent camp medical facility where 2 MH doctors, 2 dispensers and 1 physiotherapist are working providing daily care and medication for more than 100 patients.
Camp Tarqabad also has a tent medical facility with 1 MH doctor, 1 dispenser and 1 attendant. The facility is providing medical relief to more than 100 patients daily.
A medical relief camp has been established in Jalalabad with 2 doctors, 1 dispenser and 1 attendant serving earthquake victims. The facility is providing medical relief to more than 70 patients daily.

A five doctor team is travelling along the Muzaffarabad-Patika road into rural villages.
An ambulance service is operating with three ambulance vehicles. One of these three is the ambulance that was serving at Muslim Hands' free medical dispensary in Muzaffarabad and was partially damaged in the earthquake.

Muslim Hands head office has approved for the provision of 1 4x4 ambulance for Muzaffarabad.
Provision of Excavators and Dumpers: Muslim Hands has approved the provision of 5 excavators and 10 dumpers for the clearing of Muzaffarabad.. 1 excavator and dumper have already started work in Muzaffarabad and others will begin work shortly.
Rawalakot
Shelter: tents for 200 families have been provided.
A further 260 families will be provided with and shelter in the following locations:
- Camp Hollar will have the capacity for 100 families.
- Camp Rawalakot City will have the capacity for 50 families.
- Camp Kana More will have the capacity for 50 families.
- Camp Sasyedan will have the capacity for 60 families.
A further 38 families will be provided shelter at Paddar Ahmedabad.
Medical Relief: for a week following the earthquake the camp medical facility was the only available in the city. Mobile medical units have been sent from the camp into the surrounding areas.
Ambulance Service: 2 ambulances from Muslim Hands Kotli Office moved to Rawalakot and are providing transportation of patients from the villages to the nearby medical facility.
Tangdar and Uri
A team of 20 has reached Tangdar around 200km from Srinagar. Reports are that this is a hilly area and landslides have hampered work considerably. Currently:
- 80 winterised tents distributed.
- 2,000 blankets distributed.
- 20 water units installed.
- 3,000 bottles of water distributed.
- 1,000 kerosene lanterns distributed.
- Medical and first aid kits distributed.
- Food stuffs (biscuits, cereals, dry milk, tea, sugar, salt, oil etc.).
Other
Muslim Hands is working closely with Doctors Worldwide who have supplied over 40 personnel that have worked with MH Pakistan. Download DWW Report (requires Adobe Reader - more details).
Muslim Hands received a grant for $20,000 towards earthquake relief work from Reuters.
MH is working with the Pakistan High Comission in London to coordinate efforts and appreciates all assistance provided.
Also:
- 5,000 self recharging torches have been purchased for distribution in camps and amongst survivors.
- Body bags distributed in Rawalakot, Muzzaffarabad and other areas.
- 4,000 metres of burial shroud distributed for the deceased.
Needs are constantly being assessed and plans will evolve to reflect this.
