Isolated, deprived and almost entirely forgotten, the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza worsens day-by-day. The figures speak for themselves: nearly 70% of the 1.5 million people in Gaza live on less than £165 a month, while food accounts for 60% of household expenditure. Food and fuel prices have doubled in the past seven months.

Gaza remains under strict economic sanctions which have cut off food and fuel supplies. The consequent electrical power cuts and destruction of the already weakened economy has bought further suffering to all of Gaza's inhabitants. The closure of borders and inability of Gaza's sick and infirm to travel for medical care has caused numerous lives to be lost.

MH in Gaza

Muslim Hands has a long history of working in the Gaza Strip and we have a permanent office located in Gaza City. Previous work carried out by the Gaza office includes:

Food and Medical Aid

Gaza is suffering from a great many problems both of an immediate and more long term nature. Muslim Hands has launched an appeal focusing on food and medical aid as these are the most pressing needs and pose the greatest threat to life and wellbeing, especially amongst the most underprivileged Gazans.

Gaza's problems will not however disappear once media attention moves on. A devestated economy, weakened education system and years of damage to infrastructure can only be reversed through continued investment and your generous support.

How to Help

Muslim Hands Office in Gaza has made an urgent plea for medical doctors, equipment and medicines. MH is working with / supporting 3 hospitals and 4 clinics in the Gaza Strip area. Please donate generously and indeed your financial support will help save lives insha'Allah.

Gaza Under Siege
UN Report

The siege of Gaza has received widespread condemnation from the UN, humanitarian organisations and the international community. The December 2007 UN OCHA report notes:

  • More Gazans than ever need food and direct assistance.
  • Fuel shortages have threatened essential services and water supply.
  • Life-saving treatments are not available in Gaza's hospitals.
  • 17 per cent of patients with referrals were refused exit for treatment in Israel, East Jerusalem or overseas.
  • The on-going isolation of Gaza threatens the local economy.
  • Baby milk, medicines, and cooking oil are increasingly scarce .
  • Hundreds of businesses have gone bankrupt due to ban on imports/exports.
  • Thousands of labourers have lost their jobs due to the collapse of the building industry.
  • Building projects worth US$370 million are on hold indefinitely.
