Still reeling from the Tsunami of 2004, May 27th 2006 saw Indonesia hit by another earthquake, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale and causing a confirmed death toll of over 5,500.
Teams, led by Taofiq Hidayat, from Jakarta, Aceh and Medan worked in the worst-hit areas of Yogyakarta and Bantul helping survivors and displaced people through the emergency and in rebuilding their lives.

The food shortages suffered by Niger were just part of a wider problem affecting large swathes of the Horn of Africa. Continued drought -- in many parts the worst in living memory -- left 11 million people facing major food shortages.
The countries worst affected included Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya. MH teams and partners worked in affected areas distributing much needed food aid.

Ramadhan is a time is when many of Muslim Hands' vital, long-term projects are funded for the year ahead. In 2005 however, due to the terrible Asian earthquake and other disasters, many needy projects were at risk of being overlooked.
The Forgotten Sufferers appeal raised much needed funds for food, water and education projects in locations ranging from China to Ethiopia.

The earthquake which struck on October 8th, 2005 was the strongest the region has seen for 100 years. Almost 80,000 people were killed and millions more left homeless.
In the immediate aftermath tens of thousands of people were cared for in MH camps. Muslim Hands teams continue to work in earthquake-affected regions helping to rebuild towns and cities.

Niger suffered its worst food crisis since 1984, with 3.5 million people facing starvation and children dying every day. MH allocated over $542,500 to the region and teams from MH Sudan and Gambia were dispatched. Alhamdulillah, more than 100 tonnes of staple food was distributed to over 40,000 people.

The earthquake and the consequent tsunami wave that struck South East Asia on December 26th, 2004 was the beginning of the world's worst natural disaster in living memory. Within hours over 300,000
people had lost their lives and millions more had been made homeless.
MH allocated $1,860,000 to help in the immediate aftermath. Teams from the UK office were dispatched to Indonesia, India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

Even before the invasion of 2003, decades of war, sanctions and lawlessness had left Iraq a crippled country. Following the invasion, what little of the infrastructure that remained,
including water, sanitation, electricity, telecommunications and the education system were severely damaged, bringing further misery and suffering to millions of innocent Iraqis.
One Muslim Hands aid worker remarked regarding the situation and people's response to the turmoil in their country, "The people of Iraq are tired, simply tired and worn out."
